Cinnamon & Honey Warm Milk

5 min · 1 mug · By FiveFlavor Kitchen · Reviewed by Dr. M. Wu, L.Ac.

The last thing my grandmother drank every night of her life. She lived to ninety-three and slept like a stone.

Why This Elixir Works

Cinnamon is pungent and warming, traditionally used to warm the middle and guide warmth downward. Honey is sweet and neutral, nourishing the Spleen and Lung. A simple, gentle wind-down.

Ingredients

Milk (or oat milk) 1 cup
Ground cinnamon 1/4 tsp
Honey 1 tsp

Find these at Asian markets, Whole Foods, or via our Herb Grimoire.

Instructions

1

Warm the milk gently; do not boil.

2

Whisk in cinnamon and honey.

3

Drink slowly, ten minutes before bed.

Alchemist's Context

Warming. Educational purposes only.

Not every elixir needs a pot and a hour. This one needs a saucepan and four minutes — and it ends with the lights off.
