Our Story

The Story of Five Flavors

Over 2,000 years ago, Chinese healers discovered something modern science keeps confirming: food is the first medicine.

They noticed that nature offers five flavors — sour, bitter, sweet, pungent, and salty — and that each one speaks to a different organ, a different season, a different state of being. Balance the five flavors on your plate, they said, and you balance your body.

Five Flavors brings this timeless wisdom to your modern kitchen. No exotic ingredients you can't find. No complicated rituals. Just nourishing soups, teas, and everyday meals — adapted for Western kitchens, backed by tradition, and made for real life.

Lin Chen

I grew up in a family where soup was the answer to everything. Tired? Red date and goji soup. Stressed? Lotus seed and lily bulb. Catching a cold? Ginger and scallion congee before anything else.

When I moved to the West, I realized how much of this wisdom was missing from everyday kitchens — not because it didn't work, but because no one had translated it. Five Flavors is my attempt to bridge that gap. Every recipe uses ingredients you can actually find, and every claim is grounded in tradition, not hype.
