What we write about

FiveFlavor covers Chinese food-as-medicine tradition: recipes, kitchen herbs, seasonal eating, and the culture around them. Our goal is to translate a rich tradition honestly for modern Western kitchens.

How we create content

  • Recipes are cooked, not just written. Every recipe published is prepared and tested before it goes live.
  • Sources. Traditional uses are drawn from classical Chinese food and herbal literature and are always presented as tradition, not as medical claims. Modern nutritional context, where included, references publicly available research.
  • Ingredient knowledge from the source. We regularly visit one of Asia’s largest traditional herb markets in Chengdu, Sichuan to see, compare, and photograph the ingredients we write about.

Our limits

We are cooks and culture writers, not physicians. We do not provide medical advice, and we write about tradition rather than prescribing it. Articles that touch on well-being include reminders to consult qualified health professionals — see our Medical Disclaimer.
